This is a t shirt by A Forest of Shadows. Featuring an original pen & ink illustration, A Forest of Shadows interpretation of the ouroboros is inspired by Carl Jung’s view of it as an archetype and its relationship to alchemy. The ouroboros devours itself and turns itself into a circulatory process. It is a dramatic symbol for the integration and assimilation of the Shadow. Hence the skull within and the deadly nightshade adorning the snake are symbolic of death, and the mushrooms signify rebirth. The prima materia of alchemy (man himself) stems from man’s unconscious and this is represented by the flow of eyes from the pineal gland of the skull. The ouroboros is often interpreted as a symbol for eternal cyclic renewal or a cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The skin-sloughing process of snakes symbolizes the transmigration of souls, the snake biting its own tail is a fertility symbol.
